Topic:    Recognizing and Addressing Challenges in DOH-LGU Engagement

About the Speaker:

Dr. Albert Domingo is a junior consultant working with the HPDP. Having graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 2008, he began his career in Health Policy as a member of the third batch of Health Policy Fellows who served as interns in the Department of Health. He was initially engaged to work on harmonizing the Department’s responsiveness to Local Government Units (LGUs), under the guidance of the Bureau of Local Health and Development (BLHD). This has been followed by his present engagement as consultant in charge of the capacity-building and institutionalization of the Health Sector Reform Monograph Series.

Synopsis:

Drawing from an assessment report done in 2009 on the DOH-LGU engagement in the PIPH and selected programs, the speaker will present pertinent findings on gaps and bottlenecks concerning the Department’s role in facilitating health reform with LGUs as lead implementation agencies. He will then pick up where the report left off by discussing policy approaches and/or solutions crafted and executed by the DOH in response to the identified challenges.
